Sorghum Partners, Inc. was founded August 9, 2000 by a group of people that believe the hybrid sorghum seed business is not only important to farmers worldwide, but needed to help alleviate hunger and malnutrition while conserving the world's water and energy supplies. As the world's water and energy reserves are continually drawn down by the ever-increasing need of food and forage for humans and livestock, all farmers must find ways to conserve these precious resources. Increased sorghum production in the arid lands of the world will be one method.
On November 1, 2000 SORGHUM PARTNERS purchased the hybrid sorghum business unit of Syngenta Seeds, Inc. The purchase includes all sorghum research and germplasm, all parent seed production facilities and parent seed inventory, all commercial seed production facilities and commercial seed inventory, all sales and marketing rights for "NK® Brand" hybrid sorghum seed worldwide, and exclusive use of the "NK" logo on hybrid sorghum seed worldwide for a specified period of time. The purchase of the "NK" hybrid sorghum seed business enables SORGHUM PARTNERS to continue the long and proud tradition started decades ago by the old "Northrup King Co." of developing, producing and selling the finest hybrid sorghum seed.
As our name indicates, Sorghum Partners, Inc. is a hybrid sorghum seed company. Sorghum production and the hybrid sorghum seed business are unique the world over. Sorghum is one of the few crops planted on a farmer's worst ground or as a last resort in times of inclement weather. This requires a seed company willing to manage the hybrid sorghum seed business differently than current seed companies. By being focused on hybrid sorghum seed SORGHUM PARTNERS can focus on the needs of farmers trying to reduce water and energy usage while still producing sufficient quantities of feed and forage for the world's population living in regions of low rainfall.
